NARWHAL TANTO
Acquired in Denmark, the center section of Narwhal ivory on this traditional Tanto knife was harvested in the waters off the west coast of Greenland about 1975, about 10 years prior to the International Whaling Commision's ban on whaling. Although representing a significant departure from what is allowed today, knives like this one are still possible utilizing ivory not governed by the Marine Mammal Protection Act or the IWC ban. Naturally fluted, the spirals in the ivory continue into the Ebony wood, extending to the guard and butt cap. Traditionally styled, this elegant knife was inspired by the world renowned sword and knifemakers of ancient Japan, and can be reproduced for the most critical collector or Martial Arts practitioner. |
